Digital Inequity is a web app designed to educate users about their network connection and demonstrate how the digital divide affects the quality of life for Virginians through the use of crowd-sourced internet speed tests.
In light of COVID-19, the internet has become critical for maintaining well-being, furthering education, and participating in the economy. Despite its growing importance, many have been left behind by internet service providers or offered solutions at unreasonable rates and speeds.
This website was developed by Todd Mahood, an aspiring software engineer and computer science major at Christopher Newport University. Its creation was made possible by LibreSpeed, chat-bubble, FastAPI, Bootstrap, MapBox, Leaflet, OpenStreetMap, and OpenAI.
It might be difficult to imagine a future where internet access dictates your success, but, as evident in my research, it is already happening.
